The Find Bar in Magnolia’s Admincentral uses the Periscope module to improve its search results through ranking. The Periscope module consumes a significant amount of memory and requires the deep-learning library nd4j.

Periscope Control introduces a Magnolia property to disable result ranking when Magnolia starts up.

While result ranking improves the user experience, it can be desirable to deactivate this functionality – for example when running Magnolia in a Docker container using a base image such as Alpine, that does not support the nd4j library; or when memory for running Magnolia is limited.
